Cryosurgery

This is the destruction of verrucae tissue by the controlled application of a cryogen (usually liquid nitrogen) to the verruca. This treatment can be very effective in destroying verrucae and in many cases requires just one treatment to "do the job". It is however best reserved for very stubborn verrucae and in these cases should be used very selectively. It is NOT to be recommended to anyone with vascular diseases eg diabetes, kidney failure, rheumatoid arthritics, etc or anyone taking certain drugs such as steroids. I would also NOT recommend this treatment to children under 12 years of age.

The application of the cryogen can be very painful as it is administered and when the ensuing blister develops. Those who are very fair skinned should be more wary of this treatment. (They are likely to blister far more readily and as a consequence should in my experience have their verrucae frozen for a much shorter interval).
